Preliminary task
The purpose of the preliminary task is to develop skills in
filming and editing. We were able to learn how to utilise and apply simple
rules like 180 degree rule, etc.
The difficulties we faced when editing was that it was hard
to get some of the shots to run to the next shot smoothly so it looked
aesthetic. Also we had a problem with the filming in terms of costume; Sabil
wore his hood up in some shots but not others. This made finding the right
shots we wanted where he had his hood up was hard. Also it was increasingly
difficult to find the right music to go in the background and to get it to
smoothly stop when Megan started talking.
We planned the shots by watching all of them and then
deciding which ones looked best together and would make it look as if he had in
fact walked from the bathroom down the corridor and to the classroom.
I learnt that continuity editing requires you to do a lot of
filming so you can get a bigger variety of shots to edit from. Also you have to
organise your filming so that it’s easier to edit from later on.
You always have to plan before you film so that you know
exactly what you are doing when you pick up the camera. This helps later when
you come to editing because you know exactly what shots go where and how the
whole scene should roughly look.
