Django scene analysis
Django is a movie about two men, one a slave and the other a
German bounty hunter, the German man saves Django from slavery and they team up
to catch bad men. On their journeys they try to save Django’s wife from slavery
which gives the movie an unexpected twist. This movie is directed by Quentin
Tarantino and is his seventh movie. Released in 2012 it gained popularity and
is now available to stream on Netflix.
The close up camera shot shows emotion and the connection or
how close the characters are. Having a close up on an actors face can suggest
that they are saying something really important.
Also the quick jump cuts make you feel part of the convocation and it keeps the audience interested.

This shot cast over the sheriff’s shoulder makes you feel
almost as if you are in the sheriff position. It also gives you a good
perspective of where the characters are.
The look shared between Django and the German man shows a trust between them and that the characters have a clear bond.

This scene is shocking and shows yet another different shot
from the last which maintains the audience’s attention. It is quite humours as
the timing of the towns people running away and screaming is perfect. I also particularly
like the bar man’s reaction to the death of the sheriff, he is the only one who
doesn’t scream and runs to get the Marshal which can be seen as comical as it
is unexpected.
This shot helps build tension and is a nice shot to show how
the whole town is in complete chaos. Also the costume of the Marshal show that
he is of a higher class than the sheriff, it also makes him stand out and helps
develop his character.
This shot helps create a tense atmosphere; it helps develop
the comical aspect of the performance as it is highly exaggerated because in a
situation like that there wouldn’t be that many men with guns. This exaggeration
adds to the comical effect of the scene.
This shot is particularly effective as the shadow of the
Marshal represents his shadow over the town, or his control over the town, it
suggests that he keeps the town safe and that he is a very important character.
It could also suggest that he is a dark sinister character. Also the dark
doorway makes what the German man did very mysterious and hints to the audience
that he could be quite a shady character.
This is again quite a comical and revealing moment. The fact
that the characters have their hands up shows that they do in fact support
justice, which is interesting after seeing their ruthless actions earlier in
the scene. This scene shows the audience that they are in trouble and that this
may not end well, this makes the last moment in the scene even more shocking
when we realise that they are in the right and the Marshal is in the wrong.
