The big ‘six’ research task

The big six are the six main media outlets that produce movies, American TV, documentaries etc. They all help publish media and own large companies like Disney and Warner Bros. Although they do not own all media companies, some are independent, like amazon prime and Netflix and are affecting the big six. They are called the big six because the majority of popular media produced under their corporations and their net worth are higher than any others.
The big six include:

  •   21st Century Fox, own major companies like: Fox news, 20th Century Fox, Blue Sky Studios, National Geographic, New York post and more. They have are also under control of a much loved comical show called the Simpsons.

  • The Walt Disney Company owns: ABC television network, the Disney channel, Marvel Entertainment, Walt Disney pictures, Pixar animation studios and more. They also own theme parks in 7 different countries.

  • Viacom, Viacom has the least amount of money in terms of revenues out of the six with $13.7 billion. Viacom own: MTV, Comedy Central, Paramount Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment and more.

  • Comcast, Comcast has the highest amount of money in term of revenues owning $69 billion. They own: E!, Universal HD , Chiller, Focus Features, Universal Pictures, NBC and more.

  • CBS Corporation, CBS owns: CBS Television Network, CBS Television Studios, Simon & Schuster, Showtime and more.
  •   Time Warner, Time warner own: Cinemax, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Comics, CNN and more.

21st century fox released The Peanuts Movie on November 6th, 2015, it was created by blue sky studios and the budget was $99 million, it stared Noah Schnapp, Hadley Belle Miller, Mariel Sheets, Alex Garfin and Francesca Angelucci Capaldi. The international box office gross income was $114,600,000.

The Walt Disney Company realised Deadpool created by Marvel studios on February 10th 2016 in the USA the director was Tim Miller and the budget was $58 million. Deadpool starred Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Leslie Uggams and Brianna Hildebrand. Deadpool’s total global earnings from February 12th to April 6th were an estimated $754 million.


Viacom released Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation made by paramount, directed by Christopher McQuarrie in New York on July 27th 2015. The budget was $150 million and it stared Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris and Alec Baldwin. The movie has produced $56 so far.

Comcast released Jurassic World on June 12th 2015 through Universal Studios. The movie had a Budget $150 million and it stared Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D'Onofrio, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Omar Sy, B. D. Wong and Irrfan Khan. The total domestic gross income of Jurassic world was $652,270,652.

CBS Corporation through CBS Television Network produced a set of Channels called Zone Club, Zone Europa, Zone Fantasy, Zone Horror, Zone Reality and Zone Romantica which aired in Britain in 2006, each channel would show programmes linked to the genre name of the channel.

Time Warner produced Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice created by Warner Bros Pictures and Directed by Zack Snyder in March 25th, 2016 (in United States). It starred Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg,  Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne,  Jeremy Irons,  Holly Hunter and  Gal Gadot and had a budget of $250 million. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had a total domestic gross income of $330,360,194.
